Memorials are something established to remind society of a person or event.  University of Kentucky’s campus and downtown Lexington are flourishing with memorials in various locations.  Each memorial honoring different subjects and is strategically placed in specific areas.  Why would the placement of a memorial have any significance?  The placement of a memorial has an affect on multiple different elements of the memorial.  Choosing the proper placement for a memorial is a tedious task because once it is determined and built the location is permanent. The placement of a memorial has multiple affects on how the memorial is viewed, the purpose, and the impact it has on society in general. Memorial placement immediately determines societies view of the honoree.

All of these memorials are going to impact the incoming freshman class of 2016 that attend the University of Kentucky.  Memorial Hall is a focal point that will be on almost everything they will receive from campus.  The image of the clock tower will become imprinted in their brain.  It will also serve as a classroom building to a lot of them.  Not only will the students attend classes in Memorial Hall but also they will associate Memorial Hall as a staple building on campus.  They will associate the memorial as a significant figure in their newfound culture and will appreciate the ones being memorialized in the building.  The Smiley Pete Memorial will impact the incoming freshman if they get involved outside of campus and try to diversify the influences in their life.  Downtown is full of many very interesting hidden secrets and it is a great idea as a freshman to learn all aspects of not only the college campus but its surroundings as well.  The Patterson Office Tower will serve as a significant building for incoming freshman.  Its size and placement alone will educate the students on the great impact that James Patterson had on this campus.  All of these memorials are going to be used in order to educate the incoming freshman of the history surrounding their new home.
