The Victorian Square

Victorian Square was built in the 1880’s. The Victorian Square is located on the intersection of Main and Broadway in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. It is a large strip of many buildings along Main Street. The square has housed restaurants, hotels, saloons, a museum, and an Opera House. Many of the buildings along Main Street still have a lot of the original architectural structures, like the metal ceilings, ironwork, and exterior balconies. In 1985 the buildings were renovated and the renovation connected of the buildings together under one roof. Victorian Square provides a lively and exciting area for citizens of Lexington to experience the culture of downtown.
Victorian Square is now known as The Square. It is located in the heart of downtown Lexington. The location of The Square aids in creating a walk-able downtown. The fact that it is located in the heart of downtown aids in creating a lively atmosphere for the urban population of Lexington. It not only provides entertainment for the population of Lexington, but also by restoring the original architecture it keeps the urban population in tune with the history of the city. The location of The Square aids in creating fun activity for the Lexington community, as well as, reminding society of the beauty the past holds.
The Square will impact the incoming freshman class of the University of Kentucky by providing cool entertainment opportunities outside of campus. If the freshmen decide to go out and explore the city surrounding campus The Square will provide multiple different options for entertainment. The Square will not only provide entertainment options but the restored architecture will give the students a glimpse into the history of Lexington. The Square will provide a source of entertainment for the students, while allowing them to become aware of the history of Lexington.
